In various venues around Sydney, aspiring pianists and instrumentalists lined up to test their skills before live audiences and highly accredited adjudicators for the 2014 McDonald's Sydney Eisteddfod Festival. Entrants included accomplished students of pre-professional level who were vying for places in the finals of valuable scholarships, along with newcomers who were facing new challenges by competing in public for the first time.
As the 2014 McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod opened with events for instrumental groups, a number of bands, orchestras and ensembles were already celebrating their victories. Ever since the festival began in 1933, its organisers have taken particular interest in nurturing musical talent at a grass roots level by providing events for school bands. This year, the band competitions were held in the magnificent Concourse Concert Hall at Chatswood. All enjoyed the experience and there were many outstanding performances. Sydney Eisteddfod takes enormous pride in its junior bands and thanks all the young players for performing so outstandingly in every event.
For the record, Cammeray Public School triumphed in the Primary School Premium Concert Band contest, Beecroft Public School emerged as the winning Primary School Intermediate Concert Band and Matthew Pearce Public School took top honours in the Primary School Novice Concert Band event.
