The annual Sydney Eisteddfod Choral Championship Finals attract Australia’s most magnificent choirs. On Sunday 16 June at Ascham School, 10 choirs came together to present an outstanding showcase of brilliant music and teamwork. Judges Michelle Leonard OAM and Gregory Platt extend their congratulations to all choirs on their performances.
In the Sydney Eisteddfod Australasian Open Choral Championship, judges Michelle Leonard OAM and Gregory Platt awarded first place to Newcastle Chamber Choir (Waratah). Their winning repertoire included fantastic performances of I Want You Back by Jackson 5 Arr. Benjamin Lambert, Thunder composed by Benjamin Lambert and Morning Fanfare by Nigel Butterley.
In The John Lamble Foundation Australasian Championship for Youth Choirs (19/u), Fort Street High School Chamber Choir (Petersham) took out first place. They performed Ubi Caritas by Ola Gjeilo and The Foundling by Luke Byrne.
Sydney Eisteddfod would like to extend their sincere thanks to 2019 choral sponsors, The Federated Music Clubs of Australia and The John Lamble Foundation. Without their generous and ongoing support, these events would not be possible.
Sydney Eisteddfod also thanks Ascham School, with special mention to Richard Charlton for their support as a venue partner and passion for arts education in 2019.
