Siena Caleta, Finalist in the 2018 Sydney Eisteddfod Junior Singer of the Year, talks about performing in Sydney Eisteddfod and shares the best performance advice that she has heard.
Tell us why you love singing.
I love singing because it is an outlet to express my emotions and I love to engage with people through singing.
Who inspired you to start singing?
I would have to say I was inspired to start singing by my parents: they encouraged me to pursue singing because of my love of the performing arts. My first private singing lesson was at the age of 9.
Which other performers do you most like to listen, and why?
The performers that I like to listen to would have to be Demi Lovato, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce and Lady Gaga - all strong women in the industry.
Tell us about one of the songs that you performed in the Final, and why you chose it.
Warrior by Demi Lovato – I love this song as I can relate to it – I think it’s important to choose a song that you relate to.
What do you do to prepare for your performance?
To prepare for my performance I start with vocal exercises and go through the song once before I perform.
What is the best piece of performance advice you have ever heard?
Have fun, be yourself and sing like no-one is watching.
What have you learnt about yourself through performing in Sydney Eisteddfod?
I’ve learnt that hard work and persistence is key to becoming a better singer and performer.
What would you like to achieve next?
I’m currently working with a Producer and have just finished writing my first song.
