Sydney Eisteddfod in collaboration with Fine Music 102.5 is delighted to announce the six talented classical musicians and singers, who have been invited to compete in the 2018 Fine Music Young Virtuoso State Award Finals (YVA). The performers were selected from The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship, The Sydney Eisteddfod NSW Doctors Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship and The Sydney Eisteddfod John Allison & Kawai Piano Scholarship. The YVA State Finals held at the Founders' Studio at St Leonards on Sunday 14th October 2018, will also be broadcast live on air.
Classical guitarists Jeffrey Cheah and Dennis Van Rooyen alongside flutist Jessica Scott performed as soloists in The Sydney Eisteddfod NSW Doctors Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship, whilst soprano Anna Stephens and tenor Joshua Oxley competed in The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship, and Nicholas Kennedy performed in The Sydney Eisteddfod John Allison & Kawai Piano Scholarship.
The judges panel, comprising Luke Spicer, Steven Hillinger, Stephanie McCallum and Narelle Yeo, will be responsible for assessing the performances of two dissimilar pieces from each finalist with the nominated winner offered the opportunity to compete in the National competition. In addition to the cash prizes on offer, including an Audience Choice Prize, for the selected performers it's an invaluable learning experience as a live broadcast event, not to mention ongoing opportunities available for Alumni of YV.
