Sydney Eisteddfod alumni and former winner of The Voice Australia, Anja Nissen has been chosen to represent Denmark in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest. 43 countries are set to participate in the renowned competition, which will take place in Kiev, Ukraine on May 12. The Final will then take place on May 14.
Anja initially performed in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, Denmark's national selection event for the content. She went on to win 64% of the final vote, resulting in her being crowned their 2017 representative. According to the official rules of the Eurovision song contest, there is no restriction on the nationality of the performer, which allows countries to be represented by artists who are not nationals.
Her final performance on the Sydney Eisteddfod stage was in 2013 where she successfully took out First Prize in the Singer/Songwriter (Any Age), R&B Singer (16/o) and Gospel Singer (16/o) events. In addition to her winnings, she also won placings in the Song from a Musical/Music Theatre (18/o), Jazz or Blues Singer (16/o) and Country Singer (16/o) events.
