Sydney Eisteddfod takes great pleasure in announcing the four judges who will be adjudicating The 2017 John Lamble Foundation Choral Championships. All share a distinct love for choral music and are dedicated to the continuation and growth of the art form.
Stephan Kooper and Luke Byrne will be the judges for The John Lamble Australasian Championship for Primary/ Infant Choirs and Youth Choirs (19 & under) events.
Stephan has been involved in choirs as a chorister and conductor for over 30 years and completed his degree in Music Education from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he also currently holds the position of Head of Junior School Music at a leading Sydney School.
Luke has composed many choral works, and recent commissions include Storm Bird and Buruwan Elegy for the Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir and Desert Sea for Sydney Philharmonia. Luke was also recently the musical director for Big Fish at Hayes Theatre Co.
For The John Lamble Australasian Open Choral Championship the judges will be Simon Kenway and Francis Greep.
Simon is a highly respected orchestral/operatic conductor, music educator and accompanist. He has held posts as Principal Chorus Master of Opera Australia and Chief Vocal Coach for Sydney Conservatorium Opera School and now works as a freelance conductor. In 2015 was appointed Artistic Director of Pacific Opera and is also a Sydney Eisteddfod Ambassador.
Over the years, Francis Greep has developed an admired reputation for his work as a vocal coach, recitalist, chorus master, continuo player and conductor. He is currently the Marketing and Development Manager for the world-renowned Gondwana Choirs, a leader in choral performance for young musicians in Australia.
The John Lamble Australasian Choral Championships will take place on Sunday 4 June at 10am (Infant/ Primary), 1.30pm (Youth) and 6pm (Open) in the John Vallance Hall of Sydney Grammar School.
